En esta temporada, turistas nacionales e internacionales se sumergen en el encanto de la creatividad de los artesanos de Acolman, quienes a través de sus habilidades artísticas nos introducen a una de las tradiciones más hermosas de la región: la elaboración de la piñata. Esta actividad no solo destaca por su belleza cultural, sino que también desempeña un papel fundamental en el sustento económico de las familias locales, según señaló la diputada Rosario Elizalde Vázquez.
La directora de cultura del Ayuntamiento de Acolman, Adriana Vidrio, resaltó que la Feria Internacional de la Piñata ha adquirido un carácter internacional desde 2019, con la participación de países invitados. En 2023, Rusia y Bolivia serán parte de este evento, brindando a los asistentes la oportunidad de explorar más allá de las fronteras locales a través de exposiciones fotográficas y actividades representativas de cada nación.
En esta edición, se espera la participación de aproximadamente mil 650 artistas, abarcando diversas disciplinas como teatro, danza y otras expresiones artísticas.
Eventos Principales y Participación Artística:
Entre los eventos destacados, la Feria Internacional de la Piñata 2023 presentó a la Adolescentes Orquesta el 14 de diciembre en el Foro Estelar, seguido de la actuación de DLD el 15 de diciembre, ambos eventos de acceso gratuito.
También destaca la participación en esta feria de la Original Banda Limón, que tocará el 17 de diciembre en el cierre de actividades.
La historia de las piñatas
Se sabe que el origen de las piñatas viene de las celebraciones de año nuevo en China y en su forma original representaban animales, esta tradición viajó a Italia y después llegó a México, en donde los frailes la utilizaron como herramienta de evangelización, hay indicios de que en Mesoamérica había tradiciones muy similares, los mayas acostumbraban romper recipientes de barro rellenos de cacao y los mexicas llenaban cazuelas de barro con tesoros y alhajas, las decoraban con plumas y listones y las rompían durante las festividades en honor al dios Huitzilopochtli.
La forma de las piñatas surgió en el siglo XVI en Acolman de Nezahualcóyotl, Estado de México, cuando los frailes comenzaron a celebrar las misas de aguinaldo o posadas, durante los días previos a la Navidad, en ellas se usaba la piñata como alegoría para evangelizar a los pobladores de la región.
Actualmente, las piñatas se elaboran a partir de una olla de barro o cartón moldeado cubierto de papel colorido y se rellenan con dulces, fruta, cacahuates y juguetes para después romperlas con un palo. Los siete picos representan los pecados capitales: soberbia, avaricia, lujuria, ira, gula, envidia y pereza, sus múltiples colores simbolizan la tentación, láminas de oropel o latón, hacen referencia a los engaños del mundo, la venda en los ojos nos recuerda que la fe es ciega, el palo con el que se rompe la piñata es la fuerza y la virtud que destruyen los engaños y los pecados, y los dulces, fruta, cacahuates y/o juguetes, son las riquezas del reino de los cielos que se otorgan como premio a la fe y la perseverancia.

Es por ello que año con año, se lleva a cabo la Feria de la Piñata, un evento en el cual los artesanos exponen obras maestras, imparten talleres y realizan concursos, llenando la plaza central y calles de coloridos elementos que complementan los festejos de la temporada navideña.
