Visitar uno de los numerosos pueblos mágicos de nuestro país siempre será un acierto si planeas viajar con la familia, sobre todo ahora que se acerca el primer periodo vacacional del año. La ciudad de Tula, en Tamaulipas, es uno de estos y te cautivará con sus sorprendentes paisajes, su atmósfera colonial, platillos típicos y artesanías.
HISTORIA
Tula fue fundada en 1617 por el fraile Juan Bautista de Mollinedo, lo que la convierte en la ciudad colonial más antigua de Tamaulipas, estado del que hace más de 100 años fue capital.
El territorio donde se ubica entremezcla el bosque y el desierto, por lo que se pueden admirar paisajes contrastantes de belleza inédita. Además, fue cuna de civilizaciones antiguas y movimientos revolucionarios. Su valor cultural y turístico le valieron el nombramiento como pueblo mágico en 2011.
LUGARES DE INTERÉS
Una vez en esta ciudad, los lugares de interés son numerosos, aunque las visitas obligadas son la Plaza de Armas y a su quiosco colonial, alrededor de los cuales abundan los árboles y las palmas.
La iglesia de San Antonio de Padua, construida a finales del siglo XVIII, es otro sitio imperdible. Al interior se observa su techo de ladrillo, sus candelabros, paredes de piedra caliche y un San Antonio vestido con oro, del cual se cuenta que venía de paso y ya no quiso irse, haciéndose muy pesada su escultura e imposible de levantar.
Al recorrer sus calles se aprecian balcones de hierro forjado, paredes de adobe, el callejón del Pozo Honrado y diversos edificios históricos, como la Presidencia Municipal, la Casa de Cultura, el Casino Tulteco, la casa de la familia del general revolucionario Alberto Carrera Torres, y la casa donde nació Carmen Romero Rubio, segunda esposa de Porfirio Díaz.
Si la estancia en esta ciudad es por varios días, las visitas que celebrará toda la familia son a Tammapul, el sitio arqueológico a 8 km de Tula, y a la cima del Cuitzillo para ver desde ahí la laguna del mismo nombre. Grutas, cascadas, volcanes, cuevas, haciendas y restos de esqueletos de mamuts son otras atracciones que se encuentran en las proximidades de este cautivador pueblo mágico.
El trabajo de los artesanos tultecos y la calidad de sus productos expresan identidad y orgullo, por lo que es interesante conocer de cerca su labor. La piel es el material principal de sus artesanías, con la que hacen sillas de montar, aparejos, morrales, fundas, sacos, abrigos, bolsos y chamarras. La más emblemática es la cuera tamaulipeca, el traje típico del estado.
GASTRONOMÍA
En cuanto a su gastronomía, el platillo típico son las enchiladas tultecas, que se acompañan tradicionalmente con café de olla y son elaboradas con tortilla colorada, papa, chorizo, queso, col, cebolla, jitomate y chile piquín: una delicia. Como también lo son sus nieves y helados de sabores exóticos, preparados con cactáceas y otras especies vegetales de la región.
